A website serving schools
ScuoleBlu.it is promoted by Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba, a non-profit organisation established in 2022 on Elba Island. The Foundation works in five areas: environment, education, culture, social initiatives and art.
Our journey with the European Blue Schools began with the schools of Elba, which we supported in achieving certification during the 2023–24 school year. The following year, we extended the initiative to the other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. In November 2025, together with the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and ANCIM – the National Association of Italian Small Island Municipalities – we launched a collaboration aimed at promoting the model across Italy’s smaller islands.
Along the way, we met teachers, school leaders, museums, associations and organisations working towards the same objective in other parts of Italy, bringing different experiences, skills and perspectives. We realised that there was no single place in Italian where schools could easily find clear information about the programme, practical tools to get started, opportunities and examples to learn from.
ScuoleBlu.it was created for this purpose.

What it is not
ScuoleBlu.it is not the official website of the Network of European Blue Schools and does not award European Blue School certification. Certification is awarded by the Network of European Blue Schools.
We are in contact with the European Secretariat of the Network and work to ensure that the information published on this website is accurate and up to date.
An open space
This website is designed to grow through the contribution of the people who use it. Schools, teachers, institutions and organisations promoting Ocean Literacy and Blue Schools in Italy can propose news, materials, projects and experiences to be shared.
The more experiences and voices it brings together, the more useful it can become for schools wishing to approach the programme. Do you have a project to share or would you like to collaborate?
