Become a Blue School

A concrete pedagogical project, not just a label
To become a Blue School, a school develops and implements a project related to the sea, the ocean or water resources following the criteria established by the Network of European Blue Schools (NEBS).
Once the project is underway, the school can submit its application directly to the Maritime Forum page of the Network of European Blue Schools, for official recognition. If the project is approved, the school receives a Blue School certification and joins the Network of European Blue Schools. The project must have a coherent structure, genuinely involve students, produce a concrete outcome and communicate what has been achieved.
Every school can find its own “blue”
Schools in inland or landlocked areas are also welcome to apply. A Blue School does not have to be located on the coast. The ocean is a great connector: climate, the water cycle, rivers, food, energy, consumption, biodiversity, technology, human health, conservation, transport and the economy are all connected to it.
For this reason, a school located far from the sea can develop a Blue School project that is fully consistent with the programme.
